You Need a Gig

As a follow-up from yesterday, I really don't—while I'm an advocate of deleting always and you need to not keep a bunch of extra stuff around—I do want to emphasize that all of this work that I'm thinking about, just-nine days ago, finished 31 demos in 31 days. (Actually 32 demos in 32 days)

I am taking a listening break, allowing myself to wander around aimlessly in my own music room with my own musical setups. you know like, 'Maybe this, maybe that for table beats.'

For example, this morning I had AUM within the iPad running my guitar, and my Mopho synth was set up and out because I'm practicing for rehearsals with Daphne Falls—that's on Wednesday—but I've got the EP-133 in there for drums cause I'm trying to use that as a drum machine for my next batch of songs. So I'm just doing all the stuff because essentially I don't have a gig. Random pile of sh*t...

But yesterday I kind of figured out that I do want to release this dub techno music. I like listening to it. It's good. So my 'gig' is a release at the end of the month, so I've got to get this figured out in the next few days. All these songs, listen through, and then I've got to get them in a proper order, and then I've got to master, and then I've got to be about 10 days ahead on that digital release, and then you know tell people.

The goal here is catalog, and I have a backlog of music no one knows exists.

I guess my general point today is you are going to be aimless until you have a gig, and until that thing is in the books, it's all farting round-which is great if you mean to do that. Like my next big Buckdancer gig is mid-March and I have a ton of work to do cause I've got to sing backgrounds, blah blah blah. So I'll build a plan for that and I'll make that happen and we've got four or five new songs. Bu, see I HAVE GOT to have the gig to get the stuff done. That's how it goes. There's no way around it.
