Why I’m Taking the $150 DJ Gig
Why would you take a $150 DJ gig?
It’s basically just outside of town. It’s probably going to be a long walk. It’s two and a half hours, and it’s $150. Does it cost me more to do? Probably not.
But here’s my reasoning.
It’s a place I’ve never played before. It’s a crowd I’ve never played to. I have no idea what they’re looking for or what the setup is, but it’s through a booking agency I’ve almost used before.
The matriarch is retiring and two people I know are taking over. So it’s a yes for me. One I kind of know from an old songwriting group. The other I definitely know, and he’s for sure a friend.
So: helping out, doing new things, and I’m not booked for anything else.
It’s a Sunday during South by Southwest and maybe there’ll be something, but there probably won’t be.
And seeing as how I oat myself money on Sundays, I’d rather be in the black than the red.
