What I Actually Recorded

After riding 31 demos in 31 days—actually started day negative one, so 32 demos in a row—it is really nice to take a break.

Typically, I feel bad about not writing or practicing, but I actually didn’t. I practiced with something a little, but it’s a well-earned break. I’ve got to drive tonight, so I’m gonna start listening through the tracks.

Looking forward to what the release will be. Also, I’ve been burning up a lot of brain time thinking about what playing through some of this and mixing it live looks like, what the setup will be, and that is super fun. It’s kind of the gift.

What occurs to me—what I’m finding out—is your mind plays tricks on you. You kind of think you’re in one mood, but when you sit down to make a piece of music, reflectively it will tell you how you feel. And it’s really true if you’re in the zone. I was in the zone, so I think listening back to this will tell me the story of my January through how it all feels.

That’s not, well, it is being a lot woo-woo, but I really do think this is the case. We’re gonna figure out what kind of month JD really had, not the month JD thought he had.
