The Vince Clarke Dream Perfected

I spent the last month uploading kind of randomly to YouTube, and now I’ve committed to a Tuesday morning residency.

This is on the advice of Google Gemini, which, honestly, probably knows more about YouTube than anyone. I’ve been trying to condense what I’m learning and will share how it plays out, but the main idea is simple: I need a gig to get things done.

It’s less of a goal and more of a deadline. You have to have it done by X, or X doesn’t happen.

So Tuesday mornings are my thing. And a lot more people go to YouTube than a club or somewhere for happy hour.

Is it 30 minutes? Is it 15? This week it was about 15 minutes—a two-chord jam with my electronic setup. It worked really well. I figured out how to get the best settings on my iPhone, and it’s straight to iPhone. I’m really happy with how it looks. (It’s over-the-shoulder, so you can actually see what I’m doing.)

One thing we learned in COVID is that every place is a venue, but so is your house.

Back in the ’80s, Vince Clarke basically left Depeche Mode over this idea. He thought there should be a way to pipe in what he was doing from his house to a club. This is that. This is that idea, finally working.

It fits with what I’m doing. It fits with my live gig work. I’m building a catalog to see what it turns into. And I’m gonna be incredibly consistent and see if that is the thing that sets off growth. Stick with one thing and go with it.
