The Studio Tour Nobody Asked For (But You’re Getting Anyway)

You'll need to reference this Instagram post.

There are people here, and there are people who asked about my recording setup, so finally: a studio tour supporting the entire studio. (There are basically 2 in my house.)

First you’ll find an ottoman that was purchased on Facebook Marketplace. Had to keep it outside for a couple days, as it had a weird smell. It came from Terra Vista.

There’s also a light. REI: I spent a really long time deciding between two and was nervous. I clearly purchased the correct one. This thing’s great. It stays charged forever, and we will return to this theme in a second.

Also is a mono-to-stereo cord: the big end is mono and the small end is stereo. I mistakenly bought this years ago and kept it. It’s total justification for my box full of cords downstairs. Honestly, I have two or three boxes full of random cords.

But this I bought for something, and the mono-to-stereo wasn’t so great, but here it works wonders plugged into the OP-1 Field, which is my demo machine.

Talked about at some length in many posts here, op1 is basically a modern version of a four-track with a keyboard and drum sampler. Also, it’s amazing. I use the microphone for acoustic instruments. It does everything. It sounds wonderful, and you can make something 100% releasable with it.

Same company sells a companion microphone for $1000 and then a mixer also for $1000, but I don’t think I need either. I want both, but I don’t need them.

The old Bose headphones I bought 1000 years ago. I have pictures of my (former) babies with them on. Not that I don’t buy other stuff, but I never let these go. I think they’re on their third pair of ear cups.

I record here early in the mornings, demo'ing ideas. I also practice here. I can basically do a sh*t load of everything right here. Which reminds me: the battery life on the OP-1 is legend. It never runs out of charge.

Every once in a while I accidentally plug it into something and it re_charges. It’s like it knows when it needs it. Then it creates a situation where I need to plug it into my computer. Amazing.

It syncs with the computer magically, and when you pull the cord out, the computer doesn’t freak out. There’s nothing I can’t do. Actually, there’s probably a lot I can’t do, but I don’t need to do these things.

That’s a studio (2). Hope everybody’s great.
