The Secret to a Good Band Is Shared Custody
Happy Observation Monday. Here’s mine.
As you know from reading this blog here, I’m in a dad band that turned into a fairly successful local Grateful Dead band. We’re country-tinged in that we have a mandolin and a fiddle. It’s a super good time, and I’ve really loved getting to know these songs deeply.
It occurred to me yesterday that I need to pinche some of these numbers into the acoustic set. I was working on that this morning, actually.
But the point of today is that if you’re in a band and everyone’s a dad—and I’ll adjust that and say everyone’s a parent—it just makes things so easy.
They know how to cooperate. They know how to give. They know when something’s important to somebody, and they know when to just lay down their arms and do it for the good of the group.
*I would also add that it’s a special bonus if they’re still in the Fort Wife Zone, because that is a person in this world who is not taking any shit from anyone.
I’m not saying band members without children are bad. I’m just saying it’s easier on the group-think level when everyone has the shared experience of raising and being responsible for other people.
Sit and think on that today as you fart around on the internet.
