The Same Tools, Different Songs

You all will be happy to know that my track strike on SoundCloud was quickly rectified. But it does highlight an issue with automation in general out there today.

Obviously, a human had to intervene and listen. And speaking of, I listened to the track and figured out that it must have been a transition that sounded a lot like my ending, which was simply just wiping my hand across the keys upward, something we’ve all done a million times. It’s kind of like the noise strikes that people will get as well.

But it points to a bigger issue in general, of industries being rewarded to try to get people out of the equation while monetizing every single part of the experience. So some old crusty track from 2007 that’s owned by who knows, is being used to automatically strike other tracks that are wholly unrelated. These two tracks couldn’t sound any more different.

But you exist within the world you live in, and here we are. Hopefully it’s an isolated incident, or maybe it can start happening a lot. Who knows?

I’m still amazed that tracks can sound so different, since everybody’s starting from the same place. As this is the month of delving into deep house, I really do think about that a lot. A lot of that music does sound the same, but a lot of it sounds different. Everybody’s using the same tools, but yet there’s so much difference out there.

You can still be unique, and you can still use the same chords with the same voicings and come out with a totally different song, even if it’s at the same BPM. Even if you’re using 3 of the same Serum presets, which they all seem to do. I’m more of a stock Ableton guy, or sometimes Diva.

Anyway, the idea is that I do one of those a week as my track, and then make something every day for the production music.

Speaking of, I’m kind of scared to listen to my track from this morning. Ableton Note is an up-and-down situation. It’s super cool, but I don’t know it very well, but that probably helps.

Is Pray for happy accidents strategy?
