The opposite of this blog
Grabbed a sandwich for lunch today at a local shop that everybody goes to. A lot. Everybody knows everybody, whether it’s customers or somebody working there.
Anyway, there’s this guy working there who is very excited to open the door. He was really excited to do just about anything. I heard him greet a customer who obviously knew the guy. The customer said, “How you doing?” He said, “Great. I’ve got two songs I’m finishing up about blah blah blah blah,” and then starts telling him all about the songs.
The customer guy looked like all he wanted to do was get a sandwich and sit down and eat, and this fellow was just relentless with his music diatribe.
This behavior is the exact opposite of my blog here. This is the most unpromotional thing possible. It’s not doing nothing, but it’s close, and that’s what I love about it.
Although I was never that person, I had those tendencies, wanting to talk to anyone about music. Shoving it loudly into any possible conversation.
I’m old enough where I don’t have to tell all my friends about shows. As a matter of fact, I don’t tell annyone about shows. I’ll post on Instagram after they happen or something, but if somebody else is promoting, great, I’ll jump in.
I’m a very natural bass player. Happy to sit in the back. Happy to do a great job. Happy for as few people as possible to know that I’m doing great. And how I know people don’t know what I’m doing is when they come up to me after the show and say, “Slapping da bass,” and then laugh at themselves.
