The Cassette Dream

So, as I get closer to the finish line on these demos, I’m thinking about the release. I’ve decided on everyone’s lifelong dream: a cassette release in 2026.

I know it sounds ridiculous. But they’re popular with a small crowd. Truth is, huge amounts of the people buying records these days don’t even own a turntable—even fewer have a cassette deck. But that’s part of the fun. It’s small. Maybe it’s just a bookmark for someone.

I’m won't make many. People who weren't even around for the first wave talk about how they’ve always wanted to "have a vinyl." Total bullshit. But I’m here to tell you, I’ve always wanted to sell cassettes.

I wanted to do it in the seventh grade with my buddy Doug—dubbing tapes and trying to sell them in front of Sound Warehouse. I can’t remember if we actually did it, but in my head, it happened. Somewhere out there, there's a tape from my "Masterstroke Records" label—a ridiculous name, but there it is.

The plan is a series of cassettes. I’m gonna run one for my 2024 record, Memo City M, first. See how that goes, then hopefully launch the new stuff in March.

The only downside? Back in the day, Warner Brothers cassettes had this ink that smelled like grapes. I don’t expect that to happen now, but whenever I find a used one, I still smell it. Ridiculous, I know. I actually found a New Old Stock Judybats cassette recently... no grape smell.

Anyway, more ridiculousness to come.
