Nailing the Electronic Live Set

It’s the morning after the gig, and I honestly wasn’t ready for what a release it was. Set recoding here.

It was a new set, one that used kind of everything I’ve been working on for the past forever.

I don’t want to sound too grandiose about, because it was maybe a week or two weeks notice. A “hey, can you do this?” and I was able to throw it together with stuff I’ve known and newer stuff that I'd just heard about (ex: Sting2 being controlled by a chord track).

The one surprising thing is that I feel like the longer the set, the less you need, and if you have a short set, there’s this feeling that you need to do more, quicker. Right or wrong? Still don't know.

About 38 minutes of music total. I certainly had enough left to do the entire set and could’ve gone even longer, but it would be nice to have a little variety because of time constraints. In the time I was able to practice with it, I didn’t make any presets. I had very few little melodic loops. I took about two or three melodic runs myself. Those are, as suspected, less important than I thought.

I really look forward to time on the clock with the setup, but definitely using this as my current, go-forawrd base. I’m going to strip it down, probably not today, into the elements and kind of use it as a preset for my next live shows. I really like writing new stuff for events that are coming up. I think that’s a thing.

Being able to save states through the performance pack is probably in my future.

The Push 3 worked flawlessly. I loved having the Minitaur. That was for me, because I could’ve used Slippery Slope or something else too. No one would’ve cared like and in person. It’s nice to have something external. It would be nice to power it via battery so I can get all the adapters for a short show, keep them in my bag, and whip them out if I need them.

But it was a very clean show, really well received by the people that were there. I played before a grunge and a punk band, and was the tradition to a really cool English cellist, so it kind of worked out perfectly, probably by design.

But really, really happy with the show.

Younger Me would have freaked out that, oh my gosh, I’m the wrong kind of music for this, but Today Me was like, I’m just going to get up there and do my thing and commit.

I’m very happy, and it’s a big release for me. It’s incredibly satisfying to know that all this work went into a very easy show with no technical issues, no panic, no sweat, no nerves, just excitement.

And that is the zone.
