Musical Bubbles Burst Daily
Not every gig can be a winner. In the last month I haven't been paid for a gig, I got in the middle of a booking spot, I did sound for somebody and then there was āno room on the listā or some shit like that.
Back when I had a business, I helped folks a lot, and about 80% of the time they did end up kind of f*cking me over, but you just kept doing it and being nice. (Being nice is something that I've been really concentrating on lately - it works.)
This is all to say that your musical bubble will burst daily, and you don't even have to be ready for it, because it's just part of the process. You're gonna have a run of great gigs and then have a few dogs, and that's just the way it goes.
I realized, when talking to a group of guys one time, that I put all my value into what I was doing currently musically. Once it came out of my mouth, I stopped doing that for sure. That's ridiculous. Because wherever you are, you're the sum of what you've done, not just what's happened lately.
You're just a collection of what's happened, and I like to say the growth is like a saw tooth that goes up, goes down a little, goes up a little more. Maybe it goes down a little less. Maybe you go down to nothing and then the best something hitsāthat's just the way it goes.
So don't let weird gigs make you unhappy, and if you're sitting around thinking about it, you can be guaranteed that no one else is. That's for sure.
