Memo City M is (finally) up on Apple Music
No idea what happened, but the new album finally made it--after some weeks--to Apple Music.
You may, after listening, ask, 'What gives?"
There's an annual instagram deal called #jamuary, wherein (mostly) electronic artists and producers try to make something every day in January. Doesn't matter if it's a snippet or a full song. The idea is to start the year off creating.
I spent every early January morning making at least one full track-a-day (+35 total). To simplify things I modified an off-the-shelf template and chose a single genre (synthwave). I basically tried to make the same song every day, but I'm bad at it. So I got a bunch of different songs. (see Imperfect Mirror) If you don't know, Synthwave is a genre dedicated to dark, almost B-movie soundtrack-ish 80’s instrumentals. It's all meant to evoke a feeling of deep nostalgia.
So come March, with some healthy distance from the songs, I picked the best 8 (could have gone 14).Then everything was mixed and crammed/ feed very loudly thru one of my old Mackie analog mixers, to establish a solid hazy-like-a-dream, lo-fi, and degraded-by-time feeling. Probably would have been better professionally done-up and polished, but it really feels like it felt back then.
Unlike most Synthwave, this is from someone who was there. Who else can say they won a battle of the bands in a mall in the 80's?
I hope you love it. Let me know!
