Happily Making Whatever It Is I Make
No matter what I do, I sound like myself. And I think that's a positive? What comes out is gonna come out. So I try to make this more modern-sounding house, and old school house comes out. Specifically, very minimal kind of stuff.
When I unfold one of these modern projects, some with almost 100 tracks, the eyes roll unto the back of my head. Rarely am I doing anything with more than 10 tracks. It's always very basic. It's not something I really question, it's just how things look to me and how they work, and that's kind of the deal.
And I think that has been an important, ongoing lesson. If I'm trying to learn something and it's not working, just accept that it's not working, but still finish the track. And finishing the track usually ends up with something that sounds like something I do.
I'll link here the track that came from all this, but basically, I did a computer, kitchen table, old school house track, and it's just great.
It's in a cue form, so it's very short, obviously. For a dance mix, I will extend this greatly, and maybe add a few more elements, possibly a live synth etc. But I came across a cool Diva patch, and then attached a Sting sequencer to it. And that's what you hear in the second part of the song. So cool.
I love Diva for how great it sounds and what a hog it is on resources. Massive suck.
But all of this can be stemmed out and looped out and put into SP-404 or something like that very easily, or even the KO, and then jammed on endlessly for about 10 or 15 minutes. I may do that for the YouTube track this week.
All and all I super happy with it. Not gonna wig myself out about not being able to make Deep House. I’ll leave that to the kids.
I'm just going to keep making my whatever it is that I make.
Happily.
