Exploring Ambience and Electronica: Inspiration from William Orbit

Was reading about William Orbit this am in The Ambient Century. And having listened to the above-linked interview last night, I was full of beans for my composing/ recording session this am.

Insofar as Orbit goes, the Ray of Light album really blew me away in the late 90's. What a champ Madonna was to go deep in that direction. I just loved the music and read up on William Orbit, which was not easy (in Texas) back then. Had no conception of his how back then, as I was buried deep in College Rock world.

So all of this kind of input really helps when getting down to business in my workspace. I had a clear idea of what I wanted to do: something new with an improvised acoustic guitar loop.

Here's what ended up happening:

Recorded a layered acoustic guitar loop into Ableton. Probably 4-5 things. Combined and fed these thru the mackie 1202 (w/ just a bit of delay and reverb on the sends) and then into the morphagene for dis- and re-assembly. I am only starting to really understand the Morphagene, and I love it as much as I assumed I would. Then I sent all this thru the Mimeophon and Qpass (smilepass mode). Then back into Ableton, after some movement via Maths.

Lastly, played some bass thru the Roland RE-301 (which is the best of the space echos!).
That's about it.

Tracks like this work best when the loops start doing their own thing; the difference between farting around and business!

Killer way to start the day. Song here.
