everyday music every day
So it looks like blogs have been around since 1994, which sounds about right — about 30 years ago. And one of the things that you can do when you’re starting something like this and songwriting is think, “Why wasn’t I doing this then?” I mean, I probably also had an acoustic guitar in 1994.
It was actually earlier this morning when I was thinking about maybe I should go do some busking. And one of the things I don’t want this blog to be is aspirational, like “y’all hold me to being a busker.” That’s not it.
I’m going to put it on the whiteboard to see if it sticks, and that’s the end of it. I’ve been learning some songs anyway, blah blah blah blah blah.
So the point is: you just can’t beat yourself up over old stuff. You can spend all day listing the shizz you should’ve done, especially as a musician. As a live musician, I’m always on stage almost saying to myself: ‘I should’ve practiced more,’ but I shut that down before it really gets going and use the force and just play what I can play that day. Nothing kills the creative anything faster.
And also, what if I did blog in the ’90s? What if I did busk and write songs in the ’90s? They would’ve been b-a-d, and then there would’ve been this permanent record.
Yikes.
That’s why I don’t go back and read this blog. Even-like, last week’s. JD was a bit of an idiot, but he’s my kind of idiot, so I just don’t worry about it.
