DJ Set Recap 20251107

Everyday Music Every Day #10

Last Friday I played a 1 hour and 45 minute DJ set for a bunch of friends’ football dinner — a pretty conservative crowd, moneyed, 45–55.

Went in a totally different direction than usual. My oldest son’s been telling me to cut the “techno” (basically anything electronic, to him), so I did.

Built the playlist around blues, groove, and swamp. Chuck Berry, Little Feat, early Robert Palmer, The Meters, even “Shakedown Street” by the Dead. My surprise of the night was how much I loved playing “Subterranean Homesick Blues.” the whole mix was all over the map, but it worked.

Didn’t get to Hank Williams, but Carl Perkins made it in there. Everything flowed. Played “Land of 1000 Dances” by the J. Geils Band — never thought I’d play that, but it felt great.

Someone even did the full Pulp Fiction dance when I played ”You Never Can Tell,” like they’d been waiting their whole life for the song to come on.

Used the 100% battery rig — up in ten, down in ten, no tech issues. That setup is life-changing. Link to pics below.
