Day 28 Field Report: Fatigue, Templates, and Not Getting Cute
This is a field report from January 2026. It’s day 28. And writing-wise, this is kind of the first day the fatigue is set in.
I did get out of my process, outlined here the past couple days, and I just need to do on what'd been working. WOP1 tracks start with noodling around on the guitar until I get something I like. It’s as much about the feel as it is about notes and the chords. Getting the feel right w/ the op1 is so important.
The MPC is much easier. I just sit down and off I go. I’ve got my template, I’m super comfortable with it. I know I need to organize presets a little better to move quicker and to do more variations. And that’s kind of the same with the OP-1. I’m gonna have to vary those drums, and the one thing that I do have about releasing some of the stuff is: can I do better?
Because it is very demo-ish. So maybe instead of a 10-song record, it’s a five-song EP of stuff that I’ve redone, which won’t take long. MPC stuff is probably ready to go. The OP-1 stuff… I feel like my techniques when I started this month to where I am now are so much better. So if there’s good stuff earlier, it’s a little hokey, I guess. We’ll see.
But 28 days in a row is enough for anybody. But 29, 30, and 31 are gonna happen. No questions. Ends this Saturday, so rest assured: it’s happening.
